Re: For the Love of Manga
Oh hey, maybe Cat will make a new acquaintance! Or maybe that lady's just exiting Ms. Ferguson's office and telling Cat that the professor's available now, if the next page is jumping to office hours.

Re: For the Love of Manga
Listen young Cat
And you may hear
Things that are relevant
To the art you hold dear.
You may think she's fickle
But you know she is fair
Her class reputation
Did lead you there.
So gather your courage
Stand firm and speak true
With respect for Ms Ferguson
And for yourself too.
Convince her you're serious and
Make both of you proud!
Re: For the Love of Manga
I can't read her name! D: Good luck Cat.

I have to say that this has been quite a good comic to reread now that I actually have college experience, it helps me sympathise with the smaller background stuff, like having to sit on the floor while waiting to talk to a professor.

Mr. Ed sir,
Your way with rhyme
Is full of heart--
Simply sublime!
...And this, alas,
Is all of my rhyme
At this point in time.
Seriously, that was fun to read, Mr. Ed. And I echo its sentiments wholeheartedly. Courage, Cat. Courage!

Cat is so stressed that she grows a beer belly/gets pregnant in the last panel.

Judging by the names on the list before Cat, I think she's Ginger? Ginger the golden retriever?

Mmmyes, we can see a yellow hand writing the name "Ginger" (and "renaissance"):

Yup, and we see her appear earlier in the comic, as well: near the beginning of Hunter's job hunt arc.

CuteKitty - Hi! Thanks for the praise of my pome!
(I actually posted a "Thankyou" a couple of days ago but it never showed up. So of course now there will be two of them. ;-)

Re: For the Love of Manga
Geez, what's her problem with manga? Do art teachers like this really exist (in other words, is this story arc based on a real life experience)?

Many do. My art teacher in high school hated manga and anime style. She said it all looked the same. I definitely disagree there because there are many, many different styles out there. If anything, many American action comics look the same. DC style looks very much like Marvel style.

Amulek, from page three of this thread:
So, yes, there are people out there like this but Ms. Ferguson's portrayal is not based on any specific person.
Ellen-Natalie wrote:I loved Mr. Loosli! I got to do an internship with his animation class when I was in high school! He does have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to anime, but it's a justifiable one. (He was actually one of my inspirations when writing this arc.) Plus, he is willing to accept student anime work if it's done with professional quality. When I last saw him, only one student had accomplished this.

I -love- Ms Fergeson's look in the second panel! That outfit coupled with the matching brown "mask & gloves", and sitting behind that desk are wonderfully scary! (But -not- an evil scary.) I'm not sure if she actually reminds me of anyone or not, but just that whole look & feel is terrific. NICE job, Ellen-Natalie!
Re: For the Love of Manga
Well, that definitely wasn't the reaction I was expecting.

Re: For the Love of Manga
I suspect we are going to get a more in-depth look into just how Ms. Fergeson views manga and anime works. I suspect it has more to do with her class focusing on how anatomy actually works and not on stylized art forms. Pick any manga/anime and there are very good odds that while it may be fun to look at, when you actually take a moment, the very character designs are physical impossibilities (bend in the wrong ways, too tall/skinny, overly "endowed", etc).

Re: For the Love of Manga
It's those "bend in the wrong ways" and especially the "overly endowed" parts that put me off about Manga. They just make it look silly; and they also look like the artist is trying to sneak porn into what might be an otherwise good picture.
Re: For the Love of Manga
Ah, okay. Ms. Fergeson's logic makes a lot of sense to me here. If she'd explained it like this right from the get-go instead of implying that skills in manga style weren't at all useful, then I wouldn't have misinterpreted her as having an unreasonable bias against manga. Then again, if she had explained properly the first time, For the Love of Manga probably would've ended before it could really begin.

Very true on both counts, Cutekitty!
And I don't care what anyone says, I like Ms Fergeson! :-)
