Furry Experience, Volume 1
For those who might not know, I've been secretly experimenting on whether or not the FE comics could be printed. Turns out, they can! More details of this experiment can be read here: https://furryexperience.forumotion.com/t415-remember-that-top-secret-project
Now that I know it can be done, I want to work towards having Volume 1 of FE completed and ready for print before the year is over. While working to meet that goal, I want to post weekly updates so you can all see its' progress. Here's the current list of features the book with have:
Over 100 of the first FE comics from the website
Brand new Side Story starring Vikki when she first came to Utah
Selected questions from the FE Forums answered (thanks to those of you who gave permission for your questions to be used!)

Reformatting Old Pages
Something I've had to do in preparing the older FE pages is create new text and speech bubbles, so it reads easier in print. Because the page sizes are also varied, they also needed to be shrunk or blown up to fit the printing template, but not so much they were unreadable. Below are examples of the web version of a comic vs. it's print version.

Wouldn't changing the text to all caps early on ruin the joke about it later?

That's another issue I considered when changing the text to all caps - but changing the text like this greatly reduces formatting issues and strain on the eyes when printed, so I've decided it's worth excluding that comic from the final volume. I'm still debating whether to post one of the older comic detours in its' place with an explanation why it wasn't included.
Re: Furry Experience, Volume 1
Personally, I would like to see that comic included in the volume in some way. The book just wouldn't feel complete to me otherwise. Since there is going to be some extras, I wold like to request a page or two of commentary that may include the original script and an explanation of the change alongside stuff like things learned and memorable/formative events for the strip.
Just my two cents.

That particular comic (for some reason) is actually one of my favorite of the early ones. It's weird to say, but it stood out to me. It's too bad it'll have to be left out, but I suppose it is true that sometimes good stuff has to be cut for reasons outside of whether it's good or not. I'd love to see a detour in it's place though, that'd be cool (that being said, something tells me that I'll be on mission duties during the selling of this, so I can't exactly "see" it anywho)

I do agree with Latrans. If you have to leave it out, it's understandable, however; I would really like to see it in there in some way.

Re: Furry Experience, Volume 1
To me, this strip is important as it is an early indicator of the personalities involved and, to a lesser extent, the relationships between the three main characters. Â Unless I'm missing something important, my vote would be to include this one and add an author's note if it's important to the understanding of something later. Â

Aw, you guys are awesome...
I didn't realize so many people enjoyed that strip so much! I thought adding that comic wasn't possible, but I used to think that about making a printed collection in general - I'll figure out a way to make it work with the rest of the collection

YAY!
I concur with the rest of the folks who posted here; I think that strip belongs, even if you have to add a little clarification. It marks a point where you changed an aspect of your comic's style, and it was also a fun page! Plus, I think if you're going to make a print copy of all your earlier comics, it ought to include every single page, including all the fillers, to feel complete. I think if you just add an author's note to the bottom of the page with an explanation (or on the back, or at the top, or wherever fits best), that'd work fine.
'Course, ultimately, it's your comic book and your call, but I'm really happy you decided to include it.

If it's alright, might I ask how you're publishing this? I'm always curious about the publishing process. Who'll be doing the printing of the book/whatever else is involved?

Right now, Ka-Blam best fits the budget and quantities I want to work with for an initial print run - but I'm always open to looking into other printers.
A Peak at Selected Questions
During the first 100 FE pages I experimented with several sizes - this has caused some comics to spill over a couple pages, and others to barely cover half a page. As an idea to fill the extra spaces, I've been adding selected questions from these forums about the FE universe. Here's an example page:
Brief Update on Progress So Far
17 pages to draw,
27 pages to ink,
27 pages to color,
22 pages to add text
27 pages to ink,
27 pages to color,
22 pages to add text
Re: Furry Experience, Volume 1
And it is little tidbits like that which I find fascinating.
