I've noticed recently the hover text on the comic pages doesn't match your comments over here anymore.
The note over there, about the llamas getting into makeup, made me think of Andreas Katsulas from Babylon 5 getting into the makeup for G'Kar.

Re: Lots of Blood
I really like that Helen is smart enough to check the truth for herself
instead of just following blindly along. I like her more all the time!
And... DRAGONS!!!

Re: Lots of Blood
Alright! First post!
First off, I read the first book in A Song of Ice and Fire about 2 years ago, and while I didn't dislike it, in fact I found the rapid perspective shift style interesting and the world intriguing, I didn't grab any later books and don't have them on my rather hefty to read list yet. The fact that I've allowed myself to be spoiled a bit through watching reactions to the TV show probably plays a part in that. I don't have cable, which means I'd have to drop money to watch the show and I don't have the time or cash to really justify watching it, content issues aside.
That said, I've absorbed enough of the show online to be familiar with the basic jist and the characters. I can definitely see why it's popular. Also, the theme song is rockin.
As for the comic itself, to sum my arc reactions so far: Tottally been in Helen's place in the book store, staring at a book you're embarrassed to be holding. I love the anthro estraz versions of Game of Thrones cast! Also been there with the back and forth over watching appropriate content. I do actually think there's a difference between experience content in text driven mediums versus image based ones but I won't get bogged down into that.
For the current page: My guess is that Helen is about to become enraptured with the Lots of Blood equivalent of Daenerys.

I think I see a heart-to-heart with Aunt Ronnie in the offing.
I also really like the title of the show. Truth in advertising!

D'awww...
Also, that feeling. Of wanting to avoid something but not wanting to let people down. It's a tough one to deal with. I hope Helen's able to be true to herself and what she wants to do in the end--whether that means saying "sorry, this show really isn't for me" or deciding to brave new waters and watch it.

I hope Helen manages it too; I really like her. But, she'll have to do something quick because she already has a little fib to straighten out if she decides against watching the show. Luckily it's just a "little white lie" that should be easy to clear up, but it's there.Cutekitty wrote:D'awww...-whether that means saying "sorry, this show really isn't for me" or deciding to brave new waters and watch it.
Helen's changes of expression are wonderful!

You know, Helen, Ronnie could probably resist pushing those buttons of yours if they weren't so big and flashy.

Re: Lots of Blood
Stepping out of your comfort zone can yield some rewards, though I don't know that Helen is going to go all gung ho for Lots of Blood. Though I could see her liking say, the dragon princess parts and not caring for the rest. Game of Thrones is written basically as a whole bunch of separate, occasionally interlocking stories being told side by side feeding into the larger looming narrative of political chaos with an impending enemy approaching, so it tends to lend itself to that anyway.

Re: Lots of Blood
This is a great page to look at, especially the first four panels! Helen sitting on the bed, trying to decide, and then the look of determination in the third panel. And then she still has to sneak up on her laptop in panel four. In the end she, apparently, still barely gets into the story before she has to stop. Poor Helen, but she's soo cute to watch!
Ellen-Natalie; you do such great expressions!

I hope I don't seem to be stereotyping but is it common for Mormons to be that sheltered?

Not all Mormons, but I certainly was. Growing up with Mormon friends in a Mormon neighborhood in a Mormon state, I didn't get exposed to different ideas or perspectives unless I actively tried to find them.
