Finals detour, deleted scene #2
YEAH!!! You go, Dawn!!!
[brohoofs Dawn]
Too bad this strip isn't canon, though...

That would have been epic to see that epic hoof to the face.

Kanna, I doubt she's going to say yes, after all he's done to her.

And what was Brian's intentions? Was he going to be a total douche and make a stockpile with them? No. He was unfortunate that his sister stole them for her ensemble, among every other bad luck situation that Brian fell upon. and he tried to remedy the situation by buying pencils for her. I don't know why you portray him as a scumbag. The thing is that Brian never chose to not pay back her pencils, fate chose for him. And Dawn not realizing this is upset with him because he keeps on borrowing pencil after pencil, not knowing that certain happenstances resulted in Brian borrowing a pencil. I find him to be very misunderstood. Not only by Dawn, but by you, JAM.

Re: Finals detour, deleted scene #2
The thing that IRKS me (and what draws me to this comic as well, since I DO want to see things resolved) is that I find it very unusual that he hasn't bothered to return at least ONE pencil, or made an effort to bring, you know, HIS OWN??
Honestly, how much does one cost right now? $0.25 USD for a wooden one?
All Dawn needs to do now is to POLITELY refuse to lend him ANYTHING now. Then we'll see how Mr. Misunderstood Soul handles that situation.

Re: Finals detour, deleted scene #2
The reason he can't get one to go to class with is because HER SISTER KEEPS ON STEALING THEM! And because of tight college budgets and how much a college bookstore charges for pencils, he is in a tight spot. And he DID try to remedy the situation (see #159), but lo and behold, Diana had to steal them for her art project.

Perhaps the fault that Dawn finds with Brian's asking for pencils is not with the aspect of leeching her writing implements, but rather with the tired repetition. Put simply: when Brian asks, "Could I borrow a pencil?" Dawn effectively hears, "Hey, baby, what's your sign?" Ultimately, Dawn is hearing a clumsy, cliché come-on, and is rejecting it more firmly each time.
