Re: Sneak Peaks
Well, THAT'S something I certainly never considered-I might have to reposition that pen a little...
Re: Sneak Peaks
Dawn is clearly using a top-mounted pliers grip when using this, or any, writing implement. Dawn's hands / hooves are usually a solid black color; the dry-erase pen she's holding could easily be a lesser black; say, luminosity 30 or 40. This is the point of view for the whiteboard, which in this arc is a critical element. Plus, our respected artist seems to prefer straight-on views. Not to excess, of course, but straight-on views are recurrent; contrast with Bill Amend's Foxtrot comics, which rely heavily on profile views, as do many others.

Re: Sneak Peaks
Usually when I draw panels, they're drawn separately. Then the sketches are scanned in and photoshopped into how I want the page to look, then inked and colored from there.
However, these two sequential panels happened to fit together on the same page, in the same size they'll appear on final version. So MONSTER SNEAK PEAK:

Back on topic: I can read "bookstore" just fine, and "seagulls" as well. But that first word: "deseret"? An arid region of the earth with minimal vegetation is a desert. The last course of a complete meal is a dessert. The girl from the Neil Diamond song is Desirée.

Yes, the word is 'Deseret.' It's a word found in a lot of names for Mormon and Utah-oriented things. Here's a list for an example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deseret
In this particular comic, the bookstore being portrayed is a parody of a couple bookstores I've seen, who use the words "Deseret" and "Seagull" in their names.
