For all the times I've seen kids on their own all night in cartoons and movies, no adults I knew ever willing to try it in real life.

Haha, yeah, my dad would always take me and my siblings out to trick-or-treat. We had to do it between the hours of... four and seven or something like that, I think? Might've been six, I can't remember... It was actually the town's curfew-for-Halloween-trick-or-treating rule. We always managed to get more candy than we could eat, though. Laughing

I've never heard of trunk-or-treating before, but it sounds like it mostly cuts down on the walking part. Less exercise combined with getting more candy faster... I'm not sure that's a good idea, at least not from a fitness standpoint. Cx

I actually had a fun time trunk-or-treating while I was in Vegas. A couple of Wards showed up and I got to show a foreign-exchange student about what trunk-or-treating was. It was really fun and he seemed quite interested in Halloween.

Though, I do miss the days of my childhood, carving pumpkins to prepare for Halloween, and then running door-to-door. If I'm going out on Halloween again, I think I want to have a fursuit. =P Use that as my costume. Or I can just paint up my face like a fox again! =D

Me and my brother used to go trick or treating with our cousin and his friends. He'd pull us around on his skateboard. Where we lived, you could get a lot of candy just in the immediate neighborhood but if you rode with your parents to different neighborhoods, you could come back with a trash bag full of candy. The last town I lived at though before I moved to my current residence didn't have any kind of trick or treating because of the ultra conservative church members there. They ended up removing Halloween festivities and replaced them with a fall festival. They also tried to ban Pokemon cards and anime and Harry Potter books but they less successful.

I always went trick-or-treating and a large part of the allure wasn't the candy. It was seeing everybody dressed up, the decorations, goofing off with friends and really the overall sense of adventure. I can't imagine trunk-or-treating would be anywhere near as entertaining. Neutral

I'm glad you are including Vickie more. It feels like she is starting to become part of the main group, if you know what I mean, even if she doesn't live in the same apartment.

Trick-or-treating was always fun where I used to live, especially after a certain age where the group of people I went with got old enough. Somebody's parents would drive us around and let us out and drive to the end of the road or at least down the block and let us go. Once we reached the end we would pile back in and drive to a new area and start all over again. Until are bags were full or the city curfew was in effect we would go hang out in one of there houses playing games and eating candy.

Fun times

I'm not much of a fan of Trunk-or-Treating myself. Yes, it does keep the kids safer, but I feel it's just adding to the whole sense of entitlement that is developing in the US as the kids don't really have to 'work' for the candy any more. I also feel it's a sad indicator when a small town like mine does something like that to the point where homes don't get Trick-or-Treaters anymore despite this year being the first time I've heard off (I'm in my late 20's and I've lived here nearly my entire life) an attempted abduction of any type, and yet I haven't had a Trick-or-Treater in years and I've got a well lit street, yard, and porch which would make it much easier for parents in a car or staying on the sidewalk to keep the kid(s) safe.

Ellen, you should know by now that Hollywood is completely detached from reality. Their whole raison d'etre is The Grand Illusion. And if the laws of physics would prohibit the plot from advancing, then Hollywood uses insane physics that couldn't possibly work instead. And in cases where common sense would be contra-indicative, Hollywood has a plentiful supply of Idiot Balls.

Therefore, while real parents worry about their kids, and keep a sharp eye on them ... Hollywood parents completely forget they have kids once they're out of sight.

"Honey, where are the kids?"
*blinks stupidly* "We have those?"
