Depends on what part of Utah you're moving to, what kind of apartment, etc. As for affordable, well, Utah is known for having low incomes and high tax rates. There are jobs, but they take time to find. As for climates, I really love Utah weather-low humidity, and you get a little bit of everything-without hurricanes or tornadoes. (Except that one year.)

By the way, I'm back from vacation ^^

Well, I live in Phoenix. How's the weather? Hot. Winters have highs in the 70's while summers have highs in the 120s. Also it's perpetually sunny. Except on days it rains. But it's surprisingly sunny then too.

How's housing? Well, I rent a one-bedroom apartment for $375 a month (all utilities included except electricity). We've got a pool, hot tub, tennis court, racquetball court, exercise room and covered off-street parking.

As for jobs, that's a crap-shoot. I was here three months before finding my first job. However, there are jobs out there as once I got a job, I've had three other offers pop up.

I like weather where it rains a lot, and I'm not one to tolerate heat real well as it keeps me in doors and I cant cool down really well, I dunno much about utah, and an old FWB of mine lives who may provide housing for a little bit, long enough for me to get on my feet. She's in Hurricane currently.

The situation is that I'm at my parents, and despite my pitching in rent and running errands and chores, they feel that I'm getting too much sheltering and that the economy is perfectly fine for me to continue living out here...
I work fulltime and beyond hours and its not even enough to afford rooming in with people, and my wages are rather high for the area, normally my solution would be to get a second job, however my hours fluctuate and my weekends are really just a suggestion of the scheduled... so I came to the conclusion that I've had it with this place, I hate Texas, I hate san angelo even more, its stifling and oppressive and is disconnected from the rest of the world to the point that I cant stand it out here... I love my job to pieces but when my parents kick me out in November to "teach me a lesson" where it makes little sense in their decision and the main result is that I'm pretty much going to be living in a car...that's no life. burn bans keep me from doing a proper camp, and city unemployment rate is at 10%. Another upsetting statistic is a rather high portion of the city is on welfare. So most welfare and low income services have extensive waiting lists or I simply do not qualify for [if only I were a miscreant or teen mother...]

Short answer is I need out, and I feel that with my savings by November and good work references, I can GTFO of Texas and get out before this place consumes anymore of my life and puts me in a worse bind.

I dunno much about utah, But I gathered there are places that get rain and snow a lot, and this weather I greatly enjoy being in. Arizona sounds like a place I'd have to reject, I cant tolerate 115 degree heat as is.

My heart is set to eventually go back to oregon, but I like working and making a living for myself and not mooching. However with oregons economy this is out of the question for the greater Portland area.

I own my own car, which will do well to get me across everything. I definitely want to get back into security after leaving here. If I can room in, that'd be epic, but if I do that, I'd like to get a job ASAP, and a my preference for working nights should help out as well. To those who offer their help I thank you in advance.

Costs to get there...Assuming I went to SLC from SA I'd factor just over 3 full tanks of fuel to get to SLC, so I know I can make the journey with the money I already have plus living expenses. The real question is where can I go and how will I get on my feet once I get there...

Don't get me wrong, I love living here-but if that's what you're wanting to avoid, moving here is not the right choice for you-it's two steps back from where you already are.
Have you considered moving to Dallas/Forth Worth? Our own Serious Table has talked with my husband and I about how much better the housing and job market is, more liberal than Utah ever will be. As for weather, you might not like it-but I promise you'd hate driving in Utah snow even more.

Dallas might not be a bad idea, I've heard my company has offices out there also, I should bug a few friends to see if I can rent a room off them for a short period of time. Smile and snow doesn't bug me too much, I learned to drive in the winter in Washington. Razz My big concern for Dallas is its traffic. Its scary and full of highly aggressive drivers, but if I get a job close to home it shouldn't be too bad. Dallas is only an 8 hour drive away. Very Happy

Well, if you get desperate enough to brave the heat, I'm not against a temporary room mate. The up side is if you get out here in November, that's when it's cooling off so you won't have to deal with the heat right away. Worse comes to worse, it would at least be a stop-gap measure.

If you look in Dallas for jobs, also be sure you investigate the surrounding areas, such as Plano, Frisco, and Mckinney for housing. That's usually where the apartments get a bit cheaper.
