Your Favorite Furry Cons? Empty Your Favorite Furry Cons?

I'm looking into the possibility to attend a furry convention next year-as a guest, learning more about what is needed to host an FE booth in the future. (The upside to being a furry artist, attending conventions count as "Market Research" ) Any suggestion of which western U.S. con would be best to study dealer's rooms? Or just great furry conventions overall?

One of the more famous would probably be Rocky Mountain Fur Con. It's also (relatively) close to you so travel expenses shouldn't hurt too much.

Another large/established con is Califur. Takes place in Los Angeles.

I've been to Further Confusion in San Jose, CA: Very large convention (approaching 3000 attendees). MANY MANY furs there to meet and interact with. Lots of venues, panels, classes, dances, etc. However, because it's so large, sometimes you might feel kinda 'lost in the crowd'.

I've also been to Califur in Los Angeles, CA: Much smaller con, less than 1000 attendees. Much more cozy type of atmosphere, you feel like you know a lot more of the attendees because you run into the folks you know a lot more often. Not as many venues, but still a respectable showing.

I no longer attend either of these because I moved to Dallas, TX about a year ago. However, I am now registered for Mephit Fur Meet in Memphis, TN at the end of August. I'm excited to attend!

Holy SNAP Utah's getting a Furry Con!--->http://warendezvous.org/ I think I found the Furry Con to attend! (Though RMFC looks pretty great, too ^^; )
Well, on their Facebook group it says they're still raising funds via registration to book the place-I sure hope it works out!

Whelp, I took a gamble and registered for the Western Anthro Rendevous. They're still raising funds to book the convention center, (Been following their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/WARendevous/) but I definitely want to support getting a furry convention in Utah! (I also want to check out a more established con in the future-RMFC looks like a lot of fun.)

BTW, Teric-looking foward to hearing about your MFM experiences when you get back!

MFM Report:

I can honestly say that MFM was pretty different from the other cons that I've attended. It is indeed a convention, and it has lots of furs there (about 700 this year), with fursuiters, artist den, dealer's room, panels, venues, dances, and more. However, MFM is centered around a charity effort for a group called Tiger Haven ( http://www.tigerhaven.org ). There was an entire dealer's table dedicated to Tiger Haven, as well as a donation box, and a huge charity auction where folks brought tons of cool stuff to sell off. 100% of the proceeds went to benefit TH, and we raised more than $5000 this year!

The big thing for me was the fact that some long-time friends who live in and around Nashville were attending the con. Princess Buttercup and her husband IronTiger are essentially in charge of the charity auction and one of the dances. LeonatoLynx and his wife JournyeFox help out with the auction and registration. I spent most of the weekend with them! Sadly, Princess Buttercup announced that she and IronTiger would no longer be able to host the auction and the dance, because they do mostly volunteer work and money is going to be tight next year. However! Right before the closing ceremonies for the con, an anonymous donor pledged up to $1000 to ensure that they could return next year and continue the great work that they do.

I was in awe of the sense of community and family that permeates Mephit Fur Meet. Furs were paying more than $200 to buy some charity items that retail for less than $30, all in the name of 'helping the kitties'. I felt like I could walk around the con and bump into folks I knew much more often than I did at Further Confusion. I felt like I belonged.

Definitely planning to go back next year.

Ok ready for a sappy story? Sure you are ^__^ It's a love story. Yup...full of sap and sugar and D'awwwwww ok well in my opinion it is.

So, my favorite con of all time is FurFright. Aside from the fact it's personable, friendly and just really awesome, it's also where I met the love of my world, my life my everything. ^_^

Furfright 07 was my very first con. Well heck it was my first real Anything! I've never really travled before never mind alone, and certainly not to a convention, and one filled with fuzzies! Aaand I was meeting my Bf [then very good friend] for the first time. It was just... full of excitement worry and all sorts of things.

You know those romance stories where boy meets girl and the world stops? Yeah that happened. My world came to a standstill when he hugged me for the first time.

Now, four and a half years later, we're STILL sappy lovey cutesy "omg will you guys PLEASE stop you're giving me a toothache" sort of couple. And Furfright is the One con we do everything we can to go to. We have gone to every single furfright since 07.
We both suit there, I also do the Bucket Brigade, as well as [if I'm able] Ref for the fursuit games. This year I'm making a special bit of jewelry for the auction, and I'll be hosting a jewelry panel. And if i'm lucky will be in the artist alley. ^___^ I hope I hope.

after Furfright our next fave cons is FWA and a few others. ^_^

Just found out today that W.A.R. was cancelled. Sad Details can be found on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/WARendevous/permalink/574984519197453/

I'm a bit upset about this-I volunteered to host some panels, which were approved/accepted, and I've been working on them for several months. However, this does explain why I kept not getting answers to my emails when asking for details about con operations, volunteer meetings as such. I know I'm not the only one disappointed, several people were preparing for this con, who'd been putting in a lot more prep time than me.

Brian (they who made the announcement, not Dawn's boyfriend) did promise to do his best to refund everybody, so hopefully that can work out. If I get my money back I might consider going to a different furry convention this year. But as of right now, it looks like it's time to start planning to try again next year. >.<

(And Katalina, re-reading your happy sappy story was just what I needed after this bad news. Thanks Smile )

Looks like I might get to visit a furry convention this year after all! Tennessee's Fangcon is coming up next weekend, and we're going to check it out on Saturday. Smile Anyone know anything about this convention?

I worked at MFM for over 10 years. I ran the Tiger Haven Charity Auction for about 9 years before passing it off to Princess, 1 year floating, then 2 years running Registration.

MFM is a good con. It's got great people, the facilities are nice (even if the new place doesn't really "fit" as a convention space. It's a corporate retreat.) and the hotel staff actually love us there. The old hotel many of the staff hated us and tended to make some people's lives hell.

This year I'm going to see about making it to Midwest FurFest. http://www.furfest.org/ It's up in Michigan. It'll be cold, windy, and snowy, but it'll be warm inside! Lots of good friends will be there an all the Canuks who couldn't make it to MFF will be there.

I'll be attending a non-furry con called AllCon http://www.all-con.org/ next March with friends in Dallas. The new company I work for has their corp headquarters there, so since my friends want to spend a week in Dallas, I'll probably work from Corp for a few days, then hit the con, and home again. Smile

Cheers!!
