Topic Ediqutte? Empty Topic Ediqutte?

Post  Banjo(Auz) Wed Feb 19, 2014 3:28 pm

So, I took a look at the list of topics, and found some interesting things:

Threads with little/no responses
Threads with very sepecific topics, like, topics relating to the poster of said thread
Threads that have been majorly bumped

Which makes me wonder what kind of rules exist here about what is allowed in topics.

My questions are:

Are there any rules about thread topics, and how personalized they can be?
What is the policy about bumping threads?

This place is very relaxed (it seems) about this stuff, which is very different from the forum I come from.
I just want to know what is and what is not allowed.
Also, I am aware that this forum is relatively small, and not much regulation is needed, but is it really ok for someone (e.g me) to bump posts left and right?

I think I can get this one for you! Very Happy

First, you are correct. This forum is very relaxed. It is more akin to some buddies hanging out after school than a staff meeting at work. Being rather small helps because small groups are much more "self regulating" than larger ones. This also means that you'll need to really screw up (posting Not Safe for Work content, being blatantly hurtful towards others) before you get in any kind of official trouble. Other than that, as long as you keep these forums a pleasant place to be, we're likely to be rather accepting.

Now, to answer your questions directly.
Are there any rules about thread topics, and how personalized they can be? -Nope. The worst you could do is spam the forums with threads that beg for attention. This is generally annoying because it fills up our screens with a lot of clutter. However, it would be perfectly acceptable to have a single thread "All About ME!" to be as self-indulgent as you care to make it (as long as it stayed friendly and Safe for Work). Keeping it in a single thread means those who don't care can avoid it and those who do care know exactly where to go.

What is the policy about bumping threads? -We don't have one. However, unless the topic is time sensitive (for example, an auction about to close) posting just to push a thread to the top of the forum or pad your postcount is generally considered bad form. Kind of a sister issue to this is necroposting (new posts in old threads). As long as you have a decent enough reason, people aren't likely to care.

is it really ok for someone (e.g me) to bump posts left and right? -This kind of depends on what you mean by "bump". Posting just to push threads to the top is in the previous answer. However, if you mean "is it ok for someone to respond to any particular thread?" then the answer is yes. Try, of course, to keep it on topic, or at least to continue the conversation in a meaningful way.

I hope this helps and don't be shy about asking more questions if you have them. Cool

Thanks, Latrans! (You'll find Latrans is one of the most helpful guys on this forum:D ) The only thing I have to add to that is if you haven't read the forum rules yet, review them at this thread: https://furryexperience.forumotion.com/t1-rules-for-the-forum
They're simple, still good to be aware of when posting Smile

This response is kinda scrambled and short.
Sorry about that.

@Latrans: Ah, I see. That makes a lot of sense.
None of those rules are hard to follow at all, so no problems here! Very Happy
Thank you for clearing things up for me. Smile
(Don't worry, I would never dream about posting NSFW stuff or being hurtful to people!)
And by "bumping" I was referring to necroposting, sorry for the confusion.

@Ellen-Natalie:
I have read the forum rules, (and I had read them before making this thread.)
Rest assured they shall be followed! Smile

[...Hmm... According to that post, I should have PM'd you my questions instead of making this thread. Oh well.
[And yes, Latrans is quite helpful.]]
