Yay for electives!

...my only elective in the past two years unless you count my fiction thesis, which I do since theses are optional, but I finished that last quarter. Major requirements, man.

This is from my third class session of Intro to Drawing. We used our hands as models in class today and drew them in whatever poses we liked (I've a whole new appreciation for Hunter's modeling job...). The techniques of interest were contour lines and shading. I refrained from drawing a hand turkey so A+ for me

Kidding. Critiques regarding better/less lazy shading, use of line weight, etc. would be welcome if you feel like sharing!

PS: It appears the picture posted sideways--er wait, it's not sideways now? nope, yup, it's sideways scratch Welp ok. Anyway, hands!

It's posting sideways again. Sorry about that ^^;

I got to use charcoal this time! It was fun. Also messy and harder to make clear edges with.

This is my final project. The inkwash warped the paper, which is extra noticeable in this photograph. I'm happy with how this drawing turned out for the most part, though.

I've also finally figured out that the first and this pic are upright on my phone but not my laptop. Cx

These turned out awesome! Hands are really difficult to master. We see them so often every day, even when a drawing is a little off it's alarmingly noticeable. Focusing on the structure beneath the skin and tissue, like you did for your final, is the best way to learn - it's definitely your strongest piece in this collection.

Oh wow, thanks!!! Hands fascinate me because they're so intricate and we use them for so much. Building with our own two hands, holding hands, giving someone a hand...

I used my own hand as a ref for the skin-level outline (looked at directly but also took pics to have a consistent pose) and looked up hand skeletons on the Internet as refs for the skeletal structure. My art teacher also had a fake skeleton hand and let me handle it during class, which was really cool. I tried a couple of different poses and had multiple false starts. ^^; But it was worth it!
