Since they chose to host this event right after I moved, I am feeling a bit left out this weekend. But that doesn't mean I'm not finding out cool stuff about what's going on! For example:

My friend Jemma's hosting a booth to promote her own comic, Children of Eldair: http://eldair.com/ She's sharing a booth with Chad Hardin, who's done lots of awesome stuff in the comic world. More if his work can be found on his blog: http://hardinartstudios.blogspot.com/. If you're attending, go say hi to them at booth 204!

Also, my husband shared a link with me to a new Furry comic, featuring the theme of the Old Testament and Book of Mormon. The creator's got some awesome previews on his DA account: http://fromthedust.deviantart.com/

So what other cool things have people been finding out? Share it here!

The first time I discovered that there is a comic book version of The Book of Mormon involving animal characters, I immediately wanted to get my hands on that. However, it seems that the first issues focus on the events described in the Old Testament and not yet on the actual stories from The Book of Mormon. I'm more interested to see a comic book version of the actual Book of Mormon. I've seen enough Bible comics in my life.

I hope that when Mr. Mercer will eventually publish issues about the journeys of Lehi and Nephi, the price of the issues will be affordable. Right now the price is a little bit too high for a poor rat like me.

"My ultimate goal is to hire a small, elite team to create a premium-quality issue every month at a very low cost to you - just $5.99 per issue", said Mr. Mercer on the From The Dust website (I can't link it here, because I'm still a newbie).

Seeing a post here reminded me... I meant to post this back when it was a little more relevant. Oops?

Anyways, I wasn't able to go to the convention myself (living in Arizona and all) but Howard Taylor (of Schlock Mercenary fame) was in attendance and posted this bit to his blog:
Howard Taylor wrote:Thank You, Salt Lake City!

My Saturday-night Twitter feed notwithstanding, I had a great time at the first-ever, record-breaking Salt Lake Comic Con. Yes, it was irresponsibly oversold, and our booth was completely crowd-locked for much of Saturday, but the panels were great and I had lots of fun meeting fans, and hooking a few new folks on the comic. Interestingly, Amazon just placed their largest order yet for our stuff, so there must have been some sort of demand on their end following this show.

It was also kind of wonderful to see the high turnout and the enthusiasm for cosplay in all its forms. Superheroes by the squad, a battalion of stormtroopers, and a murder of Deadpools were just the beginning of the extensive array of costumed fans -- people who paid to get in, and then helped provide the spectacle for everyone else. There was even a Kevyn Andreyasn in attendance on Thursday and Saturday, and his epaulets appeared to float!

I'm excited for the show next year. They need to fix a lot of things, but I'm sure they've figured that out.

Here are two more cents from me regarding the comic "From the Dust":

I like the designs of the characters (Lehi, Sariah and Nephi), however, I find it peculiar that Lehi seems to be a hyena while his son Nephi is a cat (and Nephi's mother Sariah is also a cat). I guess those other characters presented in the website are Nephi's brothers and I guess the cat is Sam and the hyenas are Laman and Lemuel.

And I've always imagined Nephi as a large man, just like The Book of Mormon describes him...

1 Nephi 2:16 "And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, ---"

1 Nephi 4:31 "And now I, Nephi, being a man large in stature, and also having received much strength of the Lord, therefore I did seize upon the servant of Laban, and held him, that he should not flee."

...while Nephi in From the Dust is a little kitty cat.

But these are just minor remarks. From the Dust looks great and I'm looking forward to see more artwork from it.
