Well, I see the DHX crew is trying out a new Flash program for their animation.
Canterlot got a facelift, it was about time, too.

Still, I have to say that this movie was a bit disappointing. I heard that the story took place between Seasons 7 and 8, hence, I waited until seeing the Season 7 finale to understand the story better.

I didn't need to.

The disappointment came about because of the characters that either didn't show up, or were simply relegated to the background.
Namely:
The Royal Guard
The Royal Equestrian Airforce
Starlight Glimmer
Shining Armor
Starswirl The Bearded and the rest of the Pillars
The CMC
And one more whom I will NOT mention because if that character had appeared ONCE, Twilight's problems would have become a LOT easier.

Also missing: epic fight scenes like the first changeling invasion and the battle against Tirek, as well as the BASIC TELEPORTATION SPELL, geez.

Seriously, though, a fleet of ominous looking airships converge on Canterlot and the Royal Guard and the REAF mysteriously disappear? Where was Shining Armor in all of this?

Aaaaand yet again we have magic that can overpower alicorns. That's getting really old now.
Geez, did Twilight forget how to teleport?
And did she forget the basic energy blast spell? What gives here?

Though the movie wasn't all that bad, they decided to compromise in having both a reformed villain and a non-reformed villain.
