HOORAAYY for ELLEN-NATALIE! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
with her brand new Bachelorette in Sequential Arts! (I made that degree up.
What is it really??)
Vickie's expressions are so funny throughout this one; especially the last panel.

Bachelor of Science, majoring in Art and Visual Communications. Or 'BS' degree for short.

...Do Mormons really talk like this? Having such acronyms...having a NEED for these acronyms?

They're more commonly heard in high schools and BYU campus, but yes.
Re: FE Page 202
Argh... Acronyms. I do not like excessive acronyms. Having to live with people who never stop using 'em would be such a pain... I don't envy Vikki. On another note, mmmm, look at that cookie dough--I bet the cookies are gonna be delicious!

My opinion
Sarah seems to be somewhat snobby, although Mariah seems to be a cheery person in general, similar to Cat, and Helen seems to me that she should be a shy yet very sweet person.

I have a spot of advice for Helen and Henry (or anybody suffering through a long distance relationship, really). Read some old letters from around the Civil War era. Those people could write! Sadly, proper letter writing is something that's really fallen by the wayside.

You've got that right, Latrans! Plus, it's rare to get (OR send) a letter outside of email any more.
I have one elderly cousin I -write- to semi-regularly and the letters are seldom less than three pages,
usually more. Before email I wrote to several people and the letters tended to become novelettes. ;-)

It's funny
that Ronnie is not into the LDS church but she sure knows her terminology.

I think as an English teacher I would be duty bound to shoot anyone that actually spoke like that.

Not into the church, no, but she did grow up around it and has a lot more experience than the average person.

Ronnie was also apparently pretty serious about the church member she was at one time dating but ended with a very bad experience. Come to think of it... so did my cousin!Latrans wrote:kanna172003 wrote:that Ronnie is not into the LDS church but she sure knows her terminology.

I keep forgetting how big of a culture shock I could have gotten myself into if I moved to Utah.
I'd prolly be viewed as a savage there. XD

"Art and Visual Communications" Film and Television, plus a dash of theater. Modern-day performing arts.
And they call it a "Science" degree. As if there's a litmus test for beauty, and laughter can be measured in millihaws.
Utah: the State that Logic forgot.

Re: FE Page 202
Actually, I think 'Bachelor of Applied Sciences' is pretty standard terminology and not limited to just Utah. If my guess is correct, it was originally used in fields such as auto mechanics, welding, etc. where "Applied Sciences" was truly applicable. As more fields of applied study were added, they just got lumped under the same label regardless of how technical they really were.
That said, the analysis of visual media is, indeed, the subject of a LOT of scientific research, and much of that study does make it into the class room. Of course, art is very subjective so it may be hard to see, but think of just how much research goes into what makes something 'cute' as opposed to 'beautiful'.
