Furry Experience Page 197

Post  Ellen-Natalie on Tue Mar 13, 2012 3:14 am

There's a lot of funny stories of Vikki and her roommates. I'm looking forward to drawing them in the future.

I guess that's why Vickie is drawn to Mormon things, she's just trying to learn their language and ways so she can stop being uncomfortable around her roommates.

Whew, it seems that Vikki got Ronnie out of that room just in time. "Molly Mormons" is exactly the kind of phrase that can ignite a firestorm.

This also explains a great deal of Vikki's reasoning and behavior. She's from out of state: California, specifically. Vikki earned a scholarship, and qualified for housing benefits at Furry Valley U. Sunny Homes has a contract with FVU to house their students, and likely has a parallel arrangement with Furry Young U as well. Thus, I applaud Vikki's thinking: when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Vikki found herself in a fervently Mormon household, and has adapted to fit in. Further, Vikki keeps company with Ronnie as an outlet mechanism for her non-conformist tendencies.

Then, almost on cue, Ronnie has to stick her li'l bunny nose in, and jiggle the formula. She'll make a fine convict... tongue

Fireside... How does that relate to church? I mean, I get that it's actually a session in a chapel after reading this page, but where does the name come from? Is it like a fire-and-brimstone lecture? Edit: Or wait, is it meant to relate to the idea of one person sharing a good story around a cozy fireside?

I always wondered about that. My guess would be in the days of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young they would have these lessons as congregations, and, for either being outside or in a cabin, they usually have it as a fireside. But that's just a guess.

I've never heard the term fireside then again im not mormon but it brought up a thought of when I went to a camp for church and they had this big bonfire where you took a stick to represent sin and through it into the fire which was god i think.

This is what I've been going though for the last four years!
When I moved to Utah I had no idea about any of Mormon culture (other then that one South Park episode). So hearing references to Wards and Missions was a bit odd, and still is.
There really needs to be a guidebook for folks new to Utah.

Note to self, if ever invited to fireside, bring metal skewers.

Also, 187 posts! Woo!
