Re: FE Page 195
A woman who's self motivated, self sufficient, and generally just independent?! Why that's... that's... something I find attractive, actually.
Sadly, I think we've all met women who's measure of self worth is directly related to attaching themselves to a (preferably financially successful) guy and making babies. Yay for self-supportive gender inequality! Of course, that said, the conscious decision to be a stay-at-home mother (or father) is perfectly acceptable. My statement on self worth was directed at the trio's reaction to Ronnie's comment, rather than the conversation as a whole.
Reading further into it, of course, the trio could be shocked at Ronnies (possibly unintentional) suggestion that Helen won't (couldn't?!) find a husband regardless of her desire to do so.
On a completely different subject, I was in the middle of making this thread myself when I had to check the forums to make sure I got the title correct and saw Ms. Natalie posted first. We almost had twin threads.

Aaah... This page is touching one of my hot buttons (which is connected to a larger hot button, sexism, but I don't see any explicit signs of it on this page, so I won't get on that topic here); frankly, I don't blame Ronnie for getting annoyed. I hate when people assume everyone wants to one day get married and have a family; that's a rather limited and inaccurate view to have.
That being said, I'm not annoyed when folks want to have a family themselves or simply like the idea of being a stay-at-home parent; if that's what they want, yay for them, I hope they have fun. Ronnie's point about needing to be prepared to support oneself is still legitimate, however, and those girls would be wise to take it into consideration instead of shrinking back in horror. I mean, jeez. It's not like she's proposing the apocalypse.
On another note, I feel kinda bad for Vikki; she has the scared, wide-eyed look of someone caught between a rock and a hard place.

Hmph
Should have known this was going to turn out this way. After all, did anyone noticed that they each named a career that generally women do? A schoolteacher, nurse, and stay at home mom are all the only types of jobs that were available to women for a long time.

Remember, they're Mormons. Getting married and having babies is part of the salvation plan. I think birth control is a big no-no in Utah.
Heh, I'd make a lousy Mormon. I'm 40 and I'm still single
It doesn't help that I've been unemployed for 3 years now, either. A friend of mine was SURE that in 2010 I would meet my SO. It's likely that she saw me, but the moment she heard of my economic woes she turned around and didn't bother to look back.

I would like to clear up two things:
#1: Having children isn't part of the Great Plan of Salvation. It's an option of whether to have kids or not, and how many. There is no commandment to spawn like crazy. It's just that some people feel an obligation to bring many souls into this world as they can, but it is still just an option.
#2: Being 40 and single doesn't mean you will be a lousy Mormon. You won't be damned if you have no wife. If you stay righteous, you still have the same chance for exaltation as a married man. It's just that you will have to settle being with God, which is still a huge goal.

I feel sorry for Helen. "I came to college to meet men and party, and I'm stuck in a room with THESE people. I'm never going to party..."
Either that, or something even *more* serious is going on. She looks like she's at a funeral. She even is almost *dressed* for the part. I have to wonder what is bounding her down.

Re: FE Page 195
I prefer women who are self-driven and motivated for several reasons:
1) I won't have to worry about what she get's done while I'm gone at work. She's smart enough to know it on her own.
2) The children will soon be smarter than I am. Mother's who actively push their children, not only become better themselves, but the children have a better future.
3) (this is all within an lds context)but there's more sex appeal.
One of the mothers that I respect the most is my sister. Before she was married, she worked as a dental assistant for a few years while living by herself. When she got married to my brother-in-law (who's also amazing) She kept her job. By time my nephew was born, she knew how to do everything (especially how to get the most amazing deals on groceries). The best part was seeing her push my nephew to learn. By time he was 3, he knew all colors, the alphabet, knows how to read a little, has great social skills and my favorite part: I'm his best friend.

I wouldn't make a good Mormon either. Mormons don't smoke, drink, or use caffeine. Even though I don't smoke or drink, I like my caffeine. A life with no Coca-Cola, cappacinos, iced tea or chocolate is a dismal thing indeed.

Interesting thing... The Word of Wisdom only lists coffee and tea, not other caffeinated foods and drinks. Even energy drinks are not forbidden. But stuff like that is between me and Heavenly Father, so I only drink it when I have to.

Why only coffee and tea?

I think it has something to do with tanic acid contained within coffees and non-green teas.

I just remembered...
Didn't Cat say that the ladies at church get upset when you mention them being single?

She did. I'm a bit curious now to see if these three were pictured in the masses that day. *scampers off to check*
Edit: They're not. Would have been a humorous brick joke though.

I think for me part of what makes this so humorous is when it is put in light of the the fact that a large number of the most notable women of the Church never married, including the current Second Councilor of the General Relief Society Presidency.

Focus on noses.
Pardon me for pursuing a new tack, but ...
The solid squarish nose on the cervine Dawn is entirely correct. It also works on the vulpine Vikki. So, why does Ronnie have a feline nose? The li'l pink nose is fine for felines such as Catherine and some other species, but the lapine nose is not much more than a fuzzy flap, which flares during inspiration. Compare Ronnie to the lapines drawn by Megan Giles at http://dustmeat.deviantart.com.
Also, why does poor Ellen-Natalie still use JPEG compression? I can see oodles of compression artifacts everywhere on this page. Most of the more established web comic artists I know use PNG, which stands for Portable Network Graphics. This algorithm reduces images to postable sizes comparable to JPEG, but without distorting the image the way JPEG does. In fact, PNG was created specifically to make complex images easier to transmit over modem lines. It remains to this day because it simply works so well.

Bugs Bunny has a little pink nose...
